In Sydney, the Coalition for Justice and Peace in Palestine, organised its annual Nakba Commemoration Lecture in the Jubilee Room at the NSW Parliament. Many thanks to the Parliamentary Friends of Palestine, especially Lynda Voltz and David Shoebridge, for their assistance, Paul Lynch for hosting the event, and our guest speakers, Ghada Abu Ghalyoun (PGFTU), Professor Ibrahim Aoude (University of Hawaii) and Samah Sabawi (Australians for Palestine).
A rally focussing attention on the Australian arms trade with Israel was organised part of our Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign, . Speakers included Mal Tulloch, Prof. Jake Lynch, Sarah Irving, John Kaye, Dennis Doherty and Sylvia Hale.
In Byron Bay, the commemoration featured a sand wall and lots of information for visitors to the beach.
In March 2011 the Knesset (Israeli parliament) passed the Nakba Law. imposing fines on institutions that receive government funding, eg schools, If they commemorate the Nakba on the Israeli Day of Independence.
Meanwhile people in Tel Aviv mark the 63rd anniversary of Nakba (the tragedy that befell 750,000 native Christian and Muslim Arabs who fled or were forced to leave by Zionist terrorism) with a very energetic demonstration :
