Rally outside Greek Consulate in Sydney

7 July 2011

Today Australians rallied for Gaza in front of the Greek consulate in Sydney.
The rally, organised by Gaza Freedom Flotilla Australia, included many Greek Australians who brought placards written in Greek and English and led the chanting of “Shame, Greece, Shame” in Greek and in English.
Marrickville Councillor Marika Kontellis, herself a Greek Australian, said she hoped to persuade the Greek government to persuade the Greek government “to do what is right, what is lawful and what is in the best interest of human rights.”
She said “Democracy is at stake. The right to peaceful protest has been taken away. We must free the boats, free Palestine and free Gaza.”
Rihab Charida, from Gaza Freedom Flotilla Australia, also spoke, relaying the latest news from the flotilla.
