A rare opportunity to hear an eloquent spokesperson for human rights, and peace with justice, speak on the UN International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. This is a free event and light refreshments will be provided.
This is the keynote address of a human rights conference presented by Sydney Peace Foundation and the Coalition for Justice and Peace in Palestine.
As Director General of Al-Haq, one of the first human rights organisations established in the Arab world, Shawan is gravely concerned by the recent escalation of violence in the Gaza Strip and its impact on the civilian population. Al Haq has campaigned against Israeli measures of collective punishment and intimidation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories since 1979.
Emeritus Professor Stuart Rees, chairperson of the Sydney Peace Foundation, who invited Shawan as guest speaker for this conference, underlined the importance of this event at this time, “As we witness the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Shawan stands as an eloquent spokesperson for human rights and peace, with justice.”
