In Australia, the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Sydney has been vilified for its support for the campaign of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions, and specifically a boycott of Israeliuniversities. a policy which was adopted, and has since been affirmed, by the Centre’s governing Council.
In South Africa, Wits University’s Students Representative Council’s (SRC) has decided to support a full academic and cultural boycott of Israel in solidarity with the Palestinian struggle. In Norway, the University of Oslo has decided not renew its contract with G4S, which has been providing security services on campus since 2010, G4S is an international security company providing equipment and services to Israeli prisons which detain Palestinian political prisoners, including child prisoners, as well as equipment and services to checkpoints, illegal settlements and businesses in settlements. One of the largest international trade union bodies is Public Services International, (PSI), which represents 20 million workers around the world who deliver public services in 150 countries including Australia. At their November 2012 conference in Durban, South Africa, delegates to support the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel campaignand to promote and partake-in the annual awareness-raising initiative, the annual Israel Apartheid Week (IAW) campaign. Also in South Africa, the October 2012 International Solidarity Conference of the African National Congress (ANC) condemned the continued occupation of Palestinian territories by the Israeli government and supported the call of civil society’s BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) campaign. In the USA both the Presbyterian Church and the United Methodist Church have voted this year to boycott products from Israeli settlements recognised as illegal under international law. See this report.

In France, an effective campaign by the French BDS movement apparently resulted the Israeli arms companies, Elbit Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), “withdrawing” from the 2012 Aeromart Business Convention held in Toulouse, France. Apparently these companies decided they would be better off staying home than risking more damage to their reputation.T
